Congratulations to Joseph Beyer, our February Free Rent and a job! winner! He works as a medical service coordinator (a type of customer service position) at ABR/LHI, our onsite location in La Crosse.

ABR’s CEO Jim McNett and staff from the ABR/LHI branch surprised Joseph in LHI’s lunch room on February 19th.  Joseph was stunned and excited to hear that he had won! He plans to use the $1,000 cash prize to pay his rent. Joseph is ABR’s fourth Free Rent and job! winner.

Past winners include Austin McCain, who works for our ABR Appleton office, Andrea Mora, who works for ABR Stevens Point and Megan Patza, who works for our ABR Sturgeon Bay location.

Kim Ryan and Brittany Erickson Join the ABR/LHI On-Site Office.

ABR is pleased to announce that Kim Ryan and Brittany Erickson have joined the ABR/LHI office located at Logistics Health Inc. in La Crosse, WI.

As the ABR/LHI On-Site Staffing Manager, Kim serves as an extension of LHI’s human resource department by acting as the central contact for LHI hiring managers, coordinating recruiting activities and actively overseeing ABR call center and administrative talent placed on-site at LHI. In addition, Kim is responsible for managing on-site ABR branch staff, talent retention, partner agency management, quality assurance and results tracking and measurement.

Kim has over 14 years of experience in the human resources and staffing industry. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Management with an emphasis in Human Resources Management from UW Stout. She is the President-elect of the Alumni Board for Western Technical College.

Brittany Erickson is the On-Site Recruiter at ABR/LHI. She is responsible for recruiting, pre-screening applications, interviewing candidates and making staffing decisions. She brings over seven years of recruiting experience to ABR.

5 Tips for Better Performance Reviews in 2015

There’s always a lot of discussion about the problems with annual performance reviews. Although they’re meant to motivate, too often these reviews end up being time consuming and difficult for both managers and employees. But because they help with setting goals and measuring performance, they continue to play an important role in most organizations. With improvement though, they can accomplish even more. Here are five ways to drive productivity by making performance reviews both motivational and worthwhile.

Performance Review Tip 1: Review Performance Daily

To get the best from your employees, give them real-time feedback on accomplishments and challenges throughout the year. At annual review time, you can then focus on achievements and growth rather than rehash past challenges – and you won’t encounter any surprises.

Performance Review Tip 2: Treat Reviews As Conversations

Everyone should be comfortable discussing performance, so don’t lecture employees in language that makes sense only to HR. Instead, give them clear action steps and information they can use: discuss specific achievements they can be proud of and areas in which they need improvement. And, use systems that capture your conversation. Don’t fall into the trap of discussing only what fits in a box on your form.

Performance Review Tip 3: Give Reviews With A Purpose

Why bother with reviews if all you do is fill out a form and file it away? Reviews should collect useful employee-performance information that can be put to work for the entire organization. If managers see the value of performance reviews, those reviews will get done. And employees will make a greater effort in their reviews when they can see the benefits.

Performance Review Tip 4: Embrace Simplicity And Consistency

Simple, frequent reviews will give you a clear, current understanding of what’s happening with your team and contribute positively to individual engagement. Reviews should be straightforward and allow you to focus on the person sitting in front of you rather than make you decipher forms or translate HR-speak. After all, managing people is hard enough without having to deal with the effects of painfully complicated reviews.

Performance Review Tip 5: Change The Review Experience

We’ve all had bad review experience (as both reviewers and reviewees). Reviews don’t have to be awful, though, if you approach them with the right attitude. Great managers talk about performance every day and give timely (and useful) feedback to their teams. Great employees welcome feedback as a source of inspiration, motivation, and reassurance.
