National Safety Month

June is National Safety Month – the annual observance to help keep each other safe from the workplace to any place. We are excited to join the National Safety Council in observing this important initiative. The National Safety Council is America’s leading nonprofit safety advocate. They also focus on eliminating the leading causes of preventable injuries and deaths.

Preventable injuries, commonly known as “accidents,” are the fourth leading cause of U.S. deaths. Join us in observing National Safety Month as we work together to highlight leading causes of preventable injury and death so people can live their fullest lives.

Topic 1: Emergency Preparedness

Emergency Preparedness is the first topic covered by The National Safety Council. The first week of June is also National CPR and AED Awareness Week. When an emergency arises, knowing CPR and how to use an AED can save lives. Learn more about NSC First Aid training. An emergency can happen at any time. Topic 2: Slips, Trips and Falls

The second topic of this year’s National Safety Month is Slips Trips and Falls. The lifetime odds of dying in a fall are 1 in 98. Slips, trips and falls are a leading cause of injury and death. Topic 3: Heat-Related Illness

Heat-Related Illness is the next topic covered during National Safety Month. Heat was the second leading cause of weather-related death in 2021. The best way to avoid a heat-related illness is to limit exposure outdoors during hot days. As temperatures rise, so does the potential for danger. Safety needs to be 24/7. Topic 4: Hazard Recognition

The final topic in June for National Safety Month is Hazard Recognition. Hazards are everywhere. Every two minutes preventable injuries cause 1 death and 236 injuries. Safety is everyone’s responsibility. Employers must provide a safe work environment, as well as the financial support, management oversight, PPE, tools and training workers need to do their jobs safely. Both management and workers need to do their part to make safety a core value.

As an employee, we:

  • Actively help ABR improve our safety programs
  • Report hazards promptly and suggest solutions
  • Be a good safety role model for my friends and family, even off the job

We all deserve a safe workplace so we can live our fullest lives.
